 BANI -In a bid to be named as the Watermelon Capital of the North, the local government here had lined-up several activities for the celebration of the “Pakwan Festival” on February 6 to 9 to promote their best-tasting giant watermelons to tourists who will come during the celebration.

Mapandan, Pangasinan

(Pandan Festival)

Mapandan was formerly a barrio of Mangaldan. It was before located in the hilly regions of the south where there used to be plenty of “pandan” a native palm whose leaves will add aroma to cooked rice. The leaves also are stripped and woven into mats. That’s why they call it Mapandan. They celebrate there festival every 2nd week of April.
